BASF recently announced the expansion of its platinum group precious metals (PGM) refining facility in Seneca, South Carolina, USA.
BASF will increase its investment of tens of millions of dollars (USD)
to increase its refining capacity and recover precious metals from spent
catalysts such as vehicle emission catalysts. Compared with mineral
metals, recycled metals can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to
90%.
The BASF site in Seneca produces precious metal catalysts and
chemicals, which are used to produce a series of products including
herbicides, plastics, pharmaceuticals, vehicle emission catalysts,
perfumes and fertilizers.
