In the production and application of aluminum paste paint, what attracts the most attention is how to obtain a complete, smooth and bright paint film with an ideal metallic texture. In addition to selecting high-quality raw materials, the dispersion of aluminum paste is also a crucial link in the paint-making process.

(1) The choice of solvent

In order to avoid the corrosion of the coating film on the surface of aluminum flakes by active groups in strong polar solvents, it is best to choose aromatic hydrocarbon solvents or lipid solvents, such as toluene, xylene, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, etc. to soak the aluminum paste For more than two hours, each aluminum flake is well soaked.

(2) Selection of resin

Any resin is considered usable as long as it is easy to dissolve with the aluminum paste without chemical reaction. But it is better to control the acid-base below 7 to ensure that the aluminum paste is not eroded by the active groups in the organic acid.

(3) Selection of decentralized equipment

In order to ensure that the flatness and smoothness of the aluminum flakes are not damaged, a ring or radium agitator with a rotating speed lower than 100RPM must be selected during the dispersing process of the aluminum slurry. In order to avoid high shear force destroying the smooth surface of the aluminum flakes or causing the aluminum flakes to deflect.

Such as sand mill, ball mill, Sankun machine, etc., the aluminum flakes are most likely to be deflected or broken during dispersion, which will definitely affect the brightness, smoothness and metal effect of the paint film, so it is not recommended to use.

(4) Dispersion step

1. Clean the mixing vessel

For the purity of the paint and the excellent finishing effect, be sure to clean the mixer without any impurities. Containers containing acid and alkali substances must be cleaned up. The bottom and sides of the container are then wetted with solvent. Note that there should be no moisture in the container, and the solvent should also be pure and free of moisture or impurities.

1. Soak aluminum paste

Put the formulated amount of aluminum paste into the container, and soak it with 1/3 of the formula amount of the solvent until the solvent is immersed in the aluminum paste. Turn on mixer and beat on slow speed until there are no lumps. Make the solvent completely enter the interior of the slurry, completely soak the aluminum slurry, disperse it into a slurry fluid, then add the solvent of formula Z1/3, continue to soak the aluminum slurry for more than 2 hours (or overnight), and then stir and disperse.

3. Mixing of aluminum paste and resin

Check whether the aluminum paste pre-dispersion is complete. After confirming that there are no clumps and lumps, add the resin solution while keeping stirring at a low speed, so that the resin solution and the pre-dispersed aluminum paste can be mixed evenly.

4. Matters needing attention

(1) Pay attention to keep stirring at a low speed. The ingredients in the formula that need to be stirred at a high speed must be done separately, or completed before the addition of the aluminum paste. In short, once the aluminum slurry is added, the high-speed agitation must be terminated and replaced with a low-speed agitation.

(2) Generally, the aluminum paste can be dispersed after soaking for more than 2 hours. If there are still clumps, the soaking time can be extended for 10-15 hours, so as to achieve the aluminum paste is thoroughly soaked and dispersed evenly.
